Commissioned Works

ATSSB Region 16 is honored to be able to commission works of music to honor outstanding music educators and those who have made outstanding contributions to music education in West Texas.
2023 - Mr. All Region - by William Owens
This piece was commissioned in honor of Mr. John Odom.  Mr. Odom served as the ATSSB Region 16 Coordinator from 1997 to 2008. He served as band director in Floydada for 20 years.  He also taught in Memphis and Olton.  John was instrumental in moving our all region bands to the Lubbock Civic and getting all rehearsals under one roof.  He was also the the 1st coordinator to commission a piece for our region. Mr. All Region!  was premiered January 26, 2023 at the ATSSB Region 16 All Region Band Concert by the Region 16 Honor Band under the direction of Mike Lunney.  John Odom and his family were in attendance.

2012 - Heroes Triumphant- by William Owens -
This piece is commissioned in honor of George Riddell.  Mr. Riddell was a long time band director in Region 16.  He served as band director at Levelland MS, Abernathy HS, Levelland HS and Whiteface HS.  He is an active clinician and private lesson teacher.  He currently resides in Levelland, TX.  This piece was performed by the Class AA Middle School Band.  Heroes Triumphant is currently on the UIL PML Grade 1 List.

2012 - A Song for Randy- by William Owens

This piece is being comissioned in memory of Randy Willis.  It will be performed by the Class A Middle School Band.

2010 - Spirit of Liberty- by William Owens
Dedicated to Mr. Bill Woods

This piece was commissioned by ATSSB Region 16 in Honor of Bill Woods.  It was commissioned for the A-AA High School Band.  This piece was not premired all region weekend because it was canceled by a snow storm.  It was premired by the Hardin Simons University Symphonic Band on April 27, 2010

2009 - El Llano Estacado- by Gabe Mussela 
Dedicated to Mr. O. T. Ryan

This piece was commisioned by ATSSB Region 16 in honor of O. T. Ryan.  Mr. Ryan was the long time band director of Plainview High School.  He also served as the UIL Music Secertary for region 16.  This piece was commissioned for the ATSSB Middle School Honor Band.  The permier performance was performed by the A-AA High School Region Band on January 28, 2009.

2008 - Fairest Lord Jesus - by Fred Allen 
Dedicated to Dr. Charles Trailer

This piece was Commisioned by ATSSB Region 16 in honor of Dr. Charles Trailer. This piece was performed by the ATSSB Region 16 Honor Band on January 26, 2008.  Fairest Lord Jesus is currently on the UIL PML Grade 3 list.

2007 - Elan - by James Andrews
Dedicated to Ray and Mickey Jent

This piece was commisioned by ATSSB Region 16 in honor of Ray and Mickey Jent.  Mr. and Mrs. Jent were the fonders of Jent's House of Music in Lubbock.  They were long time supportes of music education in West Texas.  This piece was performed by the Class AA Middle School Band on January 27, 2007

2006 - Off to the Hill Concert March - by Currie
Dedicated to Earl and LaVerne Ray

This Piece was commisioned by ATSSB Region 16 in honor of Earl and LaVerne Ray.  Mr. and Mrs. Ray were owners of the Earl Ray Music Company.  They were avid band supporters.  They also sponsors on Texas Tech Band trips for many years.  They always rode Bus 2.  This piece was performed by A-AA High School All Region Band on January 28, 2006.  It was conducted by Mr. Ray Lashaway.

2005 - Just a Closer Walk with Thee - by Fred Allen
Dedicated to Barbara Lovett
